College 101- A Different World

College Readiness is designed to prepare students for their post-secondary lives, using real life scenarios and open floor dialogue.  Students will learn life skills and all the necessary tools to survive in College; everything from 'Study Skills', 'Preparing Meals' and 'Financial Budgeting' to 'How to Choose the Right School, Based On Their Life Goals'.  Developing these skills will provide students with the opportunity to achieve academic success, and enhance life-long learning with personal and academic goals.

  • Monday: Memorial Day - No Program

  • Tuesday: Financial Aid

    Activity Description:

    Participants will learn about the financial aid process and will have a chance to speak to a Financial Aid Officer at WSU

    Supplies Needed:

    Access to a desktop, laptop and / or cell phone w/ pen and paper.  

  • Wednesday: Living On My Own - Bean Game

    Activity Description:

    Participate in a mock college budgeting scenarios for students to practice with beans as their currency. Students will gain understanding in the knowledge of managing money, making choices on whether to buy a sandwich, pay their cell phone bill, or pay for entertainment in the upcoming weekend.. Students will also learn that unless they have a financially secure family member funding their personal needs, there is never enough money available for all of the things we’d like to have or do.

    Supplies Needed:

    Access to a desktop, laptop and / or cell phone w/ pen and paper.

    Bag of pinto beans.
