C2 Pipeline E-Newsletter: October 2019

Afterschool Fun

C2 Pipeline has started off this year's afterschool program with a bang! Our sites offer 2.5 hours of programming Monday - Thursday. During this time, students receive dinner, academic help and participate in hands-on, project based enrichments. It's a terrific time for students to get to know their peers, have fun and learn about a wide array of the up-and-coming career pathways.

Lights On Afterschool

October 24th marked the 20th anniversary of Lights On Afterschool - a national advocacy day to promote the importance of afterschool programs in the social and academic development of students across the country. In honor of this day, C2 Pipeline brought awareness in several ways. Students participated in Lights on activities at their sites, we hosted a family fall festival on Wayne State University campus, and we participated in the Lights On Afterschool rally at the Spirit of Detroit. Staff, students and family members were dedicated to celebrating the impact that afterschool has had on their lives - we are grateful for all of those who participated, as well as our partners and sponsors. We cannot wait until next year for another great Lights On Afterschool week!

Student of the Month: Demitrius Anderson (Fitzgerald High School)

Demitrius Anderson is a current freshman at Fitzgerald High School in Warren. Demitrius has already attended over 30 days of programming - making him one of our first full-time students of this school year. He is always interested in what we are doing and willing to lend a helping hand if necessary. He is a very nice and positive person in our program and his instructors are happy to have him each day. Keep up the great work, Demitrius!!

Parents of the Month: Happy Harris (Ashlee Harris' Mother)

When we think of Mrs. Happy Harris, we think of the word's 'dedication', 'support' and of course, 'HAPPINESS'! Her daughter Ashlee has only been a member of C2 Pipeline at the DCP Northwestern site since September 2019, but already Mrs. Harris' pleasant attitude of dedication and support towards the needs of C 2 Pipeline are already a regular piece of our foundation. At least once a week, she attends our program and helps engage our students with her wisdom and experience in the military as it applies to our local general sessions and enrichment activities. She is also a dependable resource for providing items that can help with programming when it may not be covered within our approved budget! Thus far, Mrs Harris has been an example of a parent who believes in the C2 Pipeline mission and goal of preparing our students for college and career readiness! Thank You Mrs. Harris for all that you do to support our program!

Staff Member of the Month: Pamela Geeck (Oak Park High School)

Pamela Geeck has been the Site Coordinator at Oak Park High School for 6 years. During that time, Pam has demonstrated an incredible amount of dedication to the school's and students' success. She is  a team player who offers a wealth of knowledge as it pertains to the C2 Pipeline structure and framework. She has been a source of support for many new Site Coordinators and no matter what she may be going through personally is still willing and able to assist those who reach out to her for assistance. Thank you, Pam, for all of your help - you are truly appreciated!!

Alumni of the Month: Jordan Manning (Pontiac Academy)

Jordan graduated from Pontiac Academy for Excellence in 2019. He was an active participant in the C2 Pipeline afterschool program and summer camps. Jordan was not only a committed student in the C2 Pipeline program - but he was a positive, welcoming and hard-working leader in the program. He is now enrolled in his first year of college, attending Saginaw Valley University. Jordan, the C2 Pipeline crew wishes you the best of luck as you continue your collegiate journey! Keep up the great work!
